LEGO motorized lighthouse set 21335

Overview

Set number 21335 ‘Motorized Lighthouse’ is a LEGO set released in 2022 under the LEGO Ideas line. It features a mechanized light, 2 minifigures (with custom prints), and a generic boat mold piece with a sticker on it.

Features

There are a lot of interesting features and gimmicks to this set. There’s a small cave on the side of the build that hides a secret treasure chest and the switch to turn on the lighthouse’s light. If you look on the backside, there is a removable rock piece for easy access to the battery box. The tower has removable side panels to reveal a ladder going up to the top of the lighthouse. Finally, the small building next to the lighthouse has a removable roof to access the lighthouse keepers quarters. This part of the set also includes a small furnace with a light piece in it.

What I like about this set

The lighthouse light is obviously the coolest feature. It rotates and uses mirrors to send out a beacon, similar to how real lighthouses operate.

What I like about this the most, though, is probably the the brick texturing. It uses tan ingot  pieces and 1×1 tan tiles on the corners to give that more detailed feel to it.

I also like the color choices on this set. It makes it feel more mature and realistic compared to other lego structures and buildings.

What I don't like about this set

There are just a couple of things that I thought could’ve been done better than they were. One is the stairs leading up to the lighthouse. I feel like they’re a bit blocky and just aren’t as clean as the rest of the set.

Another element I didn’t love was the rowboat. They used a basic boat mold which is seen in many other sets. I think that LEGO should’ve made a custom boat build instead.

The lighthouse keeper’s quarters are also really cramped and cluttered, but it has terrific details.
